Recent Developments
MHA-AZ was founded in 1954, aligning with a broader national movement led by Clifford W. Beers, who established Mental Health America (formerly the National Mental Health Association) in 1909 after his own experiences in psychiatric institutions.
In November 1957, MHA-AZ received its tax-exempt status, officially designating it as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to mental health advocacy and support.
In recent years, MHA-AZ has continued its mission to promote mental health and well-being for all Arizonans through education, advocacy, and the shaping of public policy. Throughout its history, MHA-AZ has remained steadfast in its commitment to reducing stigma, improving access to care, and supporting individuals and families impacted by mental health challenges in Arizona.
